Captain Responsibilities
Captains are responsible for reading and understanding all ARCSA rules that apply to their team. Captains are responsible for helping their players adhere to ARCSA rules, the Laws of the Game, and Burns Park rules. This includes wearing matching, numbered jerseys and shinguards; refraining from use of profanity; picking up trash; refraining from wearing jewelry, sporting conduct; and division specific rules such as no slide tackling in 7v7 D.
ARCSA referees have access to pennies for the occasion when opposing teams wear similar jersey colors. Pennies are not a substitute for outfitting your team in matching color jerseys with numbers. While slight differences in color shades are overlooked, we cannot allow a mix of stripes/solids/tank tops/wildly different colors.
Captains are responsible for informing the Registrar, League Manager, or Division coordinator as soon as they know that they need to reschedule or forfeit. If both captains for a game are willing to reschedule, and it does not interfere with scheduling playoff games, we can usually find an available field and referee for a double-header the following week, or a make up game sometime during the week. If both captains do not agree to a reschedule, the team who is unable to play at the regularly scheduled day and time will forfeit the game. Although it is best to give as much notice as possible, the minimum notice is 24 hours for notice given by email 8pm the prior evening. If you find out closer to the game, please still contact us and we will do our best to cancel the referee/field, and notify your opponent. Lack of sufficient notice may result in a $100 fine to the captain and being removed from the schedule pending payment of the fine. This is rare. Don't be that team.
Develop some system for knowing when you will have players missing. Do not get to the field and be as surprised as the opposing team that you have only 4 players available. That is considered a forfeit. Some teams have a group email or text each week. Some captains ask that players let them know each week who will play. Some captains send the field number to the players each game. Encourage your players to sign up for the rainout texts. They can do this from our website. Do not assume that any weather event necessarily means we can't play. Look for a cancellation notice.
Captains are responsible for the full team payment each season. Individual players are responsible for registering themselves with ARCSA once per year.
Tips: Some captains gather payment for the following season at the end of the current season. Some captains accept payments via paypal, allowing players to pay them electronically from their phones. Some captains do not allow players to take the field until after they have paid. Some captains get a local business to sponsor the team fees and jersey cost.
